Murfreesboro Aviation (TSA Flight School Certificate # 3121738CFI) welcomes all nationalities for flight training! All non-U.S. citizens must go through a TSA (Transportation Security Agency) process to be eligible to receive flight training. The TSA background check currently averages two weeks to complete the process (this time varies from month to month, so be sure to check with us when you are ready to begin the process)
Additionally:
- Candidates must create an AFSP (Alien Flight Student Program) account and log into the AFSP Candidate Website to submit their background information and required documentation.
- If a student is training in an aircraft that is under 12,500 lbs., the Transportation Security Agency approval is not required unless a student is seeking training for an initial airman’s certificate, an instrument rating, or a multi-engine rating per current TSA regulations. More on TSA Approval.
- If you already have a U.S. Private Certificate, or higher, there is no approval or authorization required to fly. Note: A U.S. Pilot’s license cannot expire unless it was issued on the basis of a foreign license which itself has lapsed.
AOPA (Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association) has created a very detailed step-by-step outline of the process. HERE is a link to AOPA’s Guide to TSA’s Alien Flight Training and Citizenship Validation Rule, entitled “Alien’s and Non-U.S. Citizens Seeking Flight Training.”
